Hello! I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon, 1-3 June. Registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, then please register by May 1st and mention it in the registration form.

This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, teaching, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.

We want to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!

I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

AJAX patrol

Hello, I see that you use AjaxPatrolLinks. I have good news for you: AJAX patrolling is now in core! On Wikimedia projects, it should arrive with MediaWiki 1.21wmf5, between 2012-11-26 and 2012-12-5. Lam-ang -- Thanks for taking the administrative mantle of the Ilocano Wikipedia. I started and designed this thing in 2005 (our header is different from others as you can see :-) and was developing it for years. I didn't think anyone else was interested. But I'm glad to see more interest. I have been busy with other things since (kasta man ti biag). The site looks super, proud of what you have done, and I'm glad it's growing.

Convert

I see you copied en:Module:Convert and associated pages to here. I normally help people customize convert when it is copied to another wiki as there are many details that are hard to work out without guidance, but I see that you have done a lot of translation work already.

What I cannot see is how you translated unit information. Are you aware that there is supposed to be a human-friendly page defining the units, and that page is read by a script in order to create Modulo:Pagbaliwen/datos?

Also, are you aware that now that the module is being used, there is only one template that is used? That template is Plantilia:Pagbaliwen, and all the other templates like Plantilia:Pagbaliwen/m are obsolete as they are never used (unless you call them some other way—en:Template:Convert/old is kept at en.wiki for that purpose, in order to allow comparisons between the old and new systems).

There are more things that can be done. For example, it is possible to disable adding "s" to make plural unit names, and to disable hyphenation with "|adj=on", and more. In particular, non-English digits can be accepted for input and displayed on output, and numbers can be grouped differently from the standard "123,456,789" of English.

@Johnuniq: First of all greetings! Yes I did copy and enabled the module already, and I did a direct translation from Modulo:Pagbaliwen/datos and created some testcases to check for mistakes instead of using Modulo:Pagbaliwen/dokumentasion/pangibaliw a datos/dok (which i just created). Template {{pagbaliwen}} is not widely used here yet, just over 400 transclusion. I went ahead and enabled the module since it's easier for me to manage a few module than hundreds of templates. I did encounter a minor problem (not a blocker), the "s" for plural is diabled here as the "s" rule don’t apply for plurals in Ilokano langguage, I'll post the problem on module convert talk page then I'll let you know and hopefully you can help. Thanks for removing the protection. I've just done a little adjusting. There are some strange results coming from makeunits at the moment that I do not understand (there is no "per" for "$/acre"). I have to go elsewhere now, but will return later and investigate. On my computer, that issue does not occur. I have drastically changed makeunits in the last month to make work on other wikis easier, but have not uploaded it. Perhaps there is some issue I fixed in my copy of the code. I'll look later.
